You've definitely had, or at least heard of, a tuna melt. But what about a sardine melt? This sandwich recipe is cheesy, melty and delicious just like the classic, but it's made with salty smoked sardines and pickled jalapeños for a unique flavor combination you will love.

You've definitely had, or at least heard of, a tuna melt. But what about a sardine melt? This sandwich recipe is cheesy, melty and delicious just like the classic, but it's made with salty smoked sardines and pickled jalapeños for a unique flavor combination you will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 (4.4oz) can Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 1 Lemon, zest and juice

  • ¼ cup Sour Cream

  • 2 Tbsp Red Onion, finely chopped

  • 2 Tbsp Celery, finely chopped

  • 2 Tbsp Red Bell Pepper, finely chopped

  • ¼ cup Parsley

  • 2 Tbsp pickled Jalapeno, sliced

  • 2-4 slices Cheddar Cheese

  • Sliced Boule bread or white bread

  • Butter or mayo

Directions

  1. In a large bowl combine sardines, sour cream, and lemon juice until homogenous. Olive oil from the sardines should be discarded.

  2. Fold in the red onion, celery, red bell pepper, and parsley.

  3. Scoop sardine mixture on one piece of bread, top with sliced cheddar cheese pickled jalapeños and the other slice of bread.

  4. Griddle until golden brown and melting.
