Simple & traditional Japanese onigiri tastes so good and makes for the perfect breakfast or snack. Make it today using rice, nori & Wild Planet Albacore Tuna.
2 cups uncooked short-grain Rice
2 Nori sheets
2 (5oz) cans Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna
2 Tbsp light Mayo
1 Tbsp Sesame seeds
Pinch of salt
1 Tbsp Soy sauce
1 Tbsp Mirin
️1 tsp of Sugar
Rinse the rice in some cold water until the water runs clear. Add water and cook in a rice cooker
While the rice is cooking, cook the tuna on medium heat. Add the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar and cook until the moisture dissolves. Sprinkle in the sesame seeds.
Remove the tuna from the pan and stir in the mayonnaise
Cut the nori into 2 inch strips
To avoid the rice sticking to your hands, wet your hands and rub some salt on your palms.
Scoop the rice onto one of your palms and spread it flat, enough to cover your hand. Spoon in 1-2 tbsp of tuna filling to the center of the rice.
To make the triangular shape, first roll the rice around the tuna filling into a ball-like shape. Then, forming an L shape with both hands, shape the rice into a triangular rice ball.
Attach a strip of nori along the bottom of the rice ball.
Sprinkle on some sesame seeds. Enjoy!
