This Mackerel Melt literally hits the spot! Why Mackerel? It’s richer in B12 (which gives us energy) and can be used as a great substitute for tuna! Melted with gruyere cheese on artisan bread, this recipe makes for a tasty and cheesy sandwich.

Recipe by @sarah_licious_eats This Mackerel Melt hits the spot! Why Mackerel? It’s richer in B12 (which gives us energy) and can be used as a great substitute for tuna! My friends over at Wild Planet know what they are doing as far as sustainably caught seafood-which makes me feel good about consuming their products! They believe in selective harvesting too! Mackerel Melt 2 sandwiches 2 cans Wild Pacific Mackerel (drained) @WildPlanetFoods 3 Tablespoons Avocado Oil Mayo (or regular Mayo if you want) 1/3 cup Chopped Celery 1/2 cup Shredded Gruyere Cheese 2 tablespoons Ghee (or butter) Salt & Pepper to taste Artisan bread In a bowl combine drained mackerel, avocado oil Mayo, celery, salt and pepper then mix. Spread your ghee onto your bread, place shredded cheese on bread and add the mackerel mixture. Cook on low heat until brown on both sides, serve immediately.

Ingredients

  • 2 (5oz) cans Wild Planet Wild Pacific Mackerel

  • 3 tbsp Avocado oil mayonnaise

  • 1/3 cup Celery, chopped

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Artisan bread

  • 2 tbsp Ghee (or butter)

  • 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded

Directions

  1. In a bowl combine drained mackerel, avocado oil mayo, celery, salt and pepper.

  2. Spread ghee on the outside of each bread slice.

  3. Place shredded gruyere cheese on the inside of each bread slice.

  4. Add the mackerel mixture and close each sandwich.

  5. Cook on low heat until the cheese is melted and the bread is brown on both sides. Serve immediately.
