With the occurring natural disasters, the urgency to create an emergency kit to keep you and your family prepared is upon us. It’s important to have high-energy, high-protein foods in the event of a disaster, so we’re here to share 3 reasons why you should include Wild Planet Foods in your emergency food kit!
1. Our Wild Way
During a natural disaster, you don’t want to sacrifice health and nutrition for the ease of certain emergency kit foods. We believe the health of our food impacts our health. To protect the nutritional value, taste and quality, we only source wild-caught seafood products and our fish are never farmed. Our only land product, Organic Roasted Chicken Breast, comes from chickens that are raised on a small, sustainable, certified organic farms which are part of a cooperative called Shenandoah Valley Organics. 2. Our Sustainable Catch Methods
How your food is caught is important because where the fish falls in the food chain matters. We only catch fish found lower in the food chain which have less mercury accumulated in its body.
We catch each tuna individually using pole and line and troll methods. This means catching tuna one by one, using one pole, one line and one hook. The troll fishing method involves fishing with a lure on a line that you pull through the water.
Wild Salmon, Wild Sardines, Wild Anchovies, Wild Mackerel and Wild Yellowtail
The use of purse seines or gill nets as fishing methods are successful and sustainable catch methods for certain schools of fish. The fisheries Wild Planet uses to catch our salmon have outstanding management and make sure they only harvest salmon that can be yielded. Pink salmon are caught via purse seine operations while sockeye salmon are caught via gill net operations. Wild Planet uses similar purse seine methods to catch our sardines, anchovies, mackerel and yellowtail. We use single species targeted purse-seine fishing methods, which virtually eliminate by-catch of other species while also benefiting the overall marine ecosystem. 3. Our Cans
How We Cook
We often get many questions on how our Omega 3 content is higher in our products and the answer is in how we cook our products. Each fish is hand-cut, packed, and only cooked once in the can to retain all of its natural long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids. Nothing is added to each can -- the only ingredients inside are the goodness each product already has. When you check out our ingredient list on each of our cans, you’ll find only a few ingredients with the fish or chicken being the main one! We included a list of our nutritional value of each product for your reference.
More fish for your buck
Each can of tuna has 100% tuna and sea salt; no added liquid. So, you get a 5oz whole steak in every can; compared to 3.5oz of tuna and the rest water or oil, as found in conventional tuna brands. This results in 40% more tuna per can, making once cooked Wild Planet tuna an outstanding value.
Easy to Pull Open Can
Whether you’re eating under a time crunch or natural disaster, we want to make eating healthy, easy and convenient. With our easy pull open tab, you don’t need a can opener and can eat straight from the can! Though you don’t need a can opener for our products, we still recommend you to pack one for other food items you may want to include in your emergency food kit.
